2010 CHARITIES

Camp Courageous fosters socialization, independence and educational opportunities through a community based outdoor recreational program for individuals with developmental disabilities.  Our overall mission is to improve the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities, through an array of outdoor recreational programs including overnight and weekend camping for children and adults and day camp programs for children with disabilities. Campers of all ages have access to aquatics, arts and crafts, sports, recreation and leisure programs, nature, drama, cookouts and campfires.  This same camping experience is often taken for granted when no special circumstances exist.

The mission of our organization is to provide individuals with special needs the opportunity to experience peer interaction, therapeutic exercise, a sense of accomplishment, and to increase their self esteem through the sport of ice skating. To showcase these accomplishments Gliding Stars puts on an end-of-season ice show.

Heartbeat of Toledo is a pregnancy support center that provides assistance to pregnant women as well as new mothers and fathers in need.  Heartbeat offers free pregnancy tests, a chance to explore options, emotional support, and help finding needed resources. Heartbeat’s Heart to Heart Learning Center is an “earn while you learn” program where new and expectant parents learn valuable parenting skills while earning baby items. Heartbeat also offers free layettes for new babies as well as diapers and formula on an emergency basis.

The mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northwest Ohio is to grant wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. The Northwest Ohio Chapter has granted more than 1200 wishes in our 25 year history. Fulfillment of these wishes has been made possible through the generous financial support of individuals and the business community throughout our region. All funds raised in Northwest Ohio are used to grant wishes for children in the 21 counties that comprise Northwest Ohio.

Mary Immaculate School is a Catholic school that offers education to students who have been identified with learning disabilities or are at-risk for failure in traditional classrooms because of their learning difficulties but who do not qualify for special education services. We are the only Catholic school in Northwest Ohio dedicated strictly to educating these unique learners and have been empowering students for since 1960.  Mary Immaculate is sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame.

SAFY is a leading national foster care agency with offices in eight states.  For 25 years, children who have experienced the worst in life have found hope for a better life through SAFY. Today SAFY programs and services go beyond therapeutic foster care and extend to thousands of families across the country.  SAFY’s goal is to provide loving homes for children in need.

Sunshine Inc. of Northwest Ohio is a non-profit organization in Maumee, Ohio, with a 60 year track record of enriching the lives of people with developmental disabilities by encouraging them to expand their skills, become involved in their communities and reach their fullest potential.  The mission of Sunshine is to create community among people with developmental disabilities, their families, friends and staff.  We do this by offering services that enable all of us to build relationships that enhance our lives through mutual caring and growth.  Sunshine is dedicated to celebrating each individual’s unique abilities, interests and hopes through meaningful activities and programs that include residential and supported living services, community recreation, respite care, a collaborative arts studio, family support services, a therapeutic riding center, family care homes, a greenhouse program and supported employment opportunities, among others.

Toledo Community Recreation Program will provide youth with an array of recreational programming to enhance their physical, emotional and social well-being.

The Toledo Community Recreation Program (TCRP) has offered various sporting activities and recreational programs for children living in the neighborhoods of Toledo since 1997.  We use sports activities like basketball, softball/baseball, flag football, tennis, volleyball and golf as a vehicle to build self esteem, promote respect, and get disadvantaged youth living active, healthy lifestyles.

The Toledo Symphony sustains a working community of musical artists in our area who perpetuate the experience of superb musical performances and continuous musical education for all people.  Featuring nearly 80 full-time musicians, the TSO lives out its mission by producing more than 400 performances annually that reach 300,000 listeners, including 50,000 children.

The musicians of the TSO are its heart and soul, and perform Classics, Pops, Mozart and More, and Chamber Series performances, Neighborhood and Regional Concerts, and an extensive menu of educational programming.

Ronald McDonald House Charities
Ronald McDonald House Charities has been the Tournament’s permanent charity for the past 22 years. The 14-bed facility offers a place for family members of hospitalized children to rest, relax, eat, and share concerns with people who care.

No family is ever turned away because of the inability to pay. Community support such as the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic Presented by Kroger enables the RMH to continue its invaluable service in the Toledo area. www.rmhctoledo.org
JFOCC Scholarship Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation
In 1995 the Jamie Farr Scholarship Fund created yet another way to support the youth of Toledo. Each year since its inception, Northwest Ohio or Southeast Michigan high school seniors receive an annual scholarship toward their college tuition. The scholarship is a $3,000 annual award for four years. In order to keep the scholarship, the student must achieve and maintain a 2.5 accumulative grade point average by the end of the first school year, and each year thereafter.
